Anticlimax

So much for waiting for the results. Dr.S called me earlier today to tell me the results were back and they were inconclusive. I prodded if that meant benign and he said no, it just meant that was hsould do surgery; take out the lump and then send it to pathology. He wants to schedule the surgery for next Tuesday. He will have his surgery coordinator call me to set it up.

I call Jan at the OB’s office. I probably have not mentioned before that Jan is a coordinator at my OB’s office for patients with abnormal mammograms. She coordinates appointments, pulls strings to get patients on a doctors schedule and in general hold hands and talk hyper patients like me off the ledge. She has been great to talk to and helps in understanding all medical terms that google does not clarify. So I call Jan in a tizzy to ask her what my report said and if surgery is that urgent. Jan is always the epitome of calm. She got my report and basically what the report said was that Dr.S had not got the right samples from the core and what he got was only fatty tissue.

Now granted I am plus size but WTF. What kind of surgeon does not procure the right sample. I was by no means a fidgety patient. I handle pain very well. I never even cringed so how does it happen the did not get the right tissue. It kind of shook my faith in him that an experienced breast surgeon had not been able to get the right tissue. I would have been OK if he had simply told me the truth that he would have want to perform another biopsy. We are all humans and errors happen but to rush me to surgery to hide an error was not the right way to go. I knew for sure I wanted a second opinion.
